I’m not vouching for the greatness of the Great Swamp. All I know is that I had my car washed today and something drew me to drive for miles on dirt and rocks through a swamp. It’s a wildlife refuge and I’m not vouching for that, either. I saw 2 ducks and 2 geese. I have little interest in ducks and geese.
Maybe I’ll go back in Spring for the migration of the swamp monkeys.

One for the viewer collection.

With my fondness for abandoned buildings, I have wanted to photograph this place for as long as I can remember. I actually like signs and this one was a favorite. Originally HYDRO-PRUF, I really only remember it ever being HYDRO P UF.
There’s nowhere up top to take a picture and the place is littered with vagrants and toxic chemicals (enough to rot your shoes while you walk – though I think it’s liquid tar). The letters are going fast, and so was I. I did the best I could at 70mph. I figured I’d better get something before it was completely gone.
The Arkansas Chemical Company is long gone and the EPA did a cleanup (Jersey style) after the Superfund Act of 1980. 1.7 acres of prime, highway accessible Newark real estate.
