The Sphere
For 3 decades The Sphere(by artist Fritz Koenig) stood in the fountain at Austin Tobin Plaza at the World Trade Center. It somehow survived, though not unscathed, 9/11 and is now displayed alongside an eternal flame at the entrance to Battery Park. Inside was found a bible, an airplane seat and papers from the offices above.

Very interesting story – it gave me chills. I like the people included in the top photo – they add a sense of scale to the sphere showing how large it is.
