With my fondness for abandoned buildings, I have wanted to photograph this place for as long as I can remember. I actually like signs and this one was a favorite. Originally HYDRO-PRUF, I really only remember it ever being HYDRO P UF.

There’s nowhere up top to take a picture and the place is littered with vagrants and toxic chemicals (enough to rot your shoes while you walk – though I think it’s liquid tar).  The letters are going fast, and so was I. I did the best I could at 70mph. I figured I’d better get something before it was completely gone.

The Arkansas Chemical Company is long gone and the EPA did a cleanup (Jersey style) after the Superfund Act of 1980. 1.7 acres of prime, highway accessible Newark real estate.

Be the first to like.
