That’s what they call an earthquake in Wisconsin.

No, it isn’t.

I saw someone else do a picture like this and if I can remember who I’ll credit them.

The last good full moon had me out in the cold for hours with a cheap 300mm lens. I didn’t plan to take another one this time, but everyone kept talking about how close it was. That and a better lens made me feel compelled to try it again. I felt like I was missing something. I took only 4 pictures and spent 5 minutes this time. Yawn!

No, it isn’t interesting enough to hang on your wall and it’s not scientific enough to impress, but looks neat being a picture from my patio.

Then… I looked in front of me on the counter and realized that I could have just stayed inside and took pictures of my cantaloupe. AND.. talk about CLOSE!

By the way… it was $2.50 with my Stop-n-Shop card. that’s $.99 off people!

When I started photoblogging years ago on photoblog.com, a bunch of us would fool around with each other’s photos for fun and all post them at the same time. We all enjoyed seeing how a single image could be interpreted so many different ways. I miss that fun challenge and for the life of me can’t do it on my own with my own photos. Enter Kelly. She posted some pictures of potted plants on Facebook and I asked for one. There is a link to Kelly’s blog on the right.

I often ‘borrow’ other peoples photos from the web and play with them. Sort of like looking up words in the dictionary for fun for some people. I never show them what I did because it might be offensive that I felt the need to change their photo, but I do it. Rian, Mariana, Mario and Penny are all favorites to ‘borrow’ from because they take such interesting photos that I like to see in different ways. I’m never trying to correct them or assume I’m making them better, I just enjoy doing it.

So I ‘borrowed’ a photo from Kelly’s Facebook wall.

I didn’t correct it and I didn’t make it better, I just made it different. Her, I told. And asked for another to play with. She’s a much better photographer, technically, than I am, so what does she care?

The second one threw me for a loop because it was a little less interesting being just a single pot.

I wasn’t in a contest or anything so I did a couple of fast changes. The correct way to do stuff like this is to take your time and have a plan. I have no plan. Ever.

She likes the beach, so her plant went to the beach.

I like more gloomy, so this one is in a forest. Again, doing this properly takes more time than I gave it, but I killed a little free time having fun. Thanks Kelly.

The Stateline Diner and the Crescent Moon

Published by under People

Every time my son does something exceedingly funny, I seem to forget it before I can make full use of the humor. This is a reposted photo, not for you, but for me to remember to make relentless fun of him.

ratcake

Michael’s Rat Cake. What place sells cake with a rat on top? I even called it ‘Rat Cake’ and they brought it.

We went to this diner for a quick bite. My son thought it was called the Satellite Diner and at 17, was hoping for an alien/space theme. Once he rode through his disappointment, we decided to go anyway.

The wait staff was embroiled in a huge fight, the dishwasher sabotaged the Sprite with Coke, making it brown and although it says ‘Bakery’ on their sign, I could have used the éclair cream to beat the owner senseless and rob the place.

We assumed that being the State Line Diner, the staff must have been arguing about NJ –vs- NY or something, but the anger and resentment that hung like a cloud over the place went far deeper than that. There was yelling, threats and even smack talking about each other to the customers.

The food wasn’t great, though  the place was nice and sparkled like a gem. I did something I never have done before and said I wasn’t paying for that éclair. It took two owners to cosign and the one owner told me that ‘maybe it was just the one.’ and thought I’d like to take another home with me. Seriously? Honestly, I didn’t want dessert anyway. I just wanted to stay longer. I CAN’T WAIT TO GO BACK TO THIS PLACE!!!

And in case you’re curious, there wasn’t a full moon tonight… it was merely a crescent moon.

He tried to teach me of non-conformity and passion as Jonathan Livingston had taught him before, but alas he was doomed to failure from the start. I don’t speak seagull. Silly bird.
